Named
for external fur-lined cheek pouches for carrying vegetable
matter, also a burrowing animal with soft and glossy body
hair, inconspicuous ears, with large upper and lower incisors.
Their body size varies by species in size from 6"-13".
Excavated crescent shaped mounds produces while tunneling
for succulent portions of plants.
Litter size and occurrence of liners is encouraged by ample
supply of nutritious food and elongated growing seasons. Gophers
locate food by odor and prefer plant life with high water
content, substantial protein, vitamins, carbohydrates and
minerals.
RCO
Omega Gopher Bait offers the end user, whether
homeowner or contractor the top of the line in gopher bait
performance. This custom formulation blends the top grain
accepted by gophers, the groated oat, with numerous flavoring
agents and extenders to create a highly effective tool for
below ground application and control of pocket gophers, who
are active year round.
RCO Omega Gopher Bait
stands out from the rest because of results, especially apparent
in crops like alfalfa, one of the toughest of all for the
farmer. The bait is an acute, strychnine .5% that is incorporated
onto the grain kernel with oils for uniform saturation and
durability. Anti-oxidants and special extenders offer the
end-user proven control. Flavoring agents assist in enhancing
the attractiveness and palatability of the product.
RCO Omega Gopher Bait
is easily applied by hand or with a hand held dispenser unit.
The grain flows uniformly and with small placements, results
can be expected in most cases in less than 24 hours. Some
plot work has revealed control within minutes and only meters
away from the site of ingestion of the bait. Above ground
risk to predators or other forms of wildlife or domestic animals
is rare because of the below ground placement of this material.
Always read the panel of directions for best results.
RCO Omega Gopher Bait
is used throughout the year as weather permits.
Most baiting takes place operationally during the Spring or
Fall of the year when soil is most workable, Clean up work
of nuisance populations missed during the Spring or Fall is
accomplished throughout the year, as this pest does not go
dormant as does the squirrel. Above ground excavations are
indicators of infestations but tunnels are still being dug
and soil can be moved into old non-productive tunnel systems.
Watch for vegetative damage. CRP packaged: 6 oz./12 cs; 24
oz./12 cs; 5 lb/6 cs; 50-lb. bag.
RCO
Bait Dispensers
(see illustration left) are hand held units used for the detection
and dispersion of grain baits in particular. Pelleted baits
tend to be chewed up in the tubes of these units. RCO
Gopher Probe Bait Gun is our smaller unit that
holds approximately 1/2 lb. of grain bait. It's commercial
brother the RCO Contractor Bait
holds twice the grain quantity as the smaller and
has the "feel" for the tunnel, as does the smaller
unit. Typically, in tighter more compact soils, we suggest
using a steel locating rod to locate the runs. This probing
for tunnels is diagrammed on the tools for user success.
This
product may be used only in manual subterranean applications
in terrestrial food crops and terrestrial non-food and forestry
areas to control pocket gophers.
Pocket gophers may be controlled by placing bait in the main
runway, after gaining access by removing plugs in lateral
tunnels or by probing soil to locate the main runway. Reclose
hole, taking care to exclude light and not to allow soil to
cover the bait.
Make 2 to 5 bait sets per burrow system depending upon its
apparent size. Depending upon gopher density, one pound of
bait will treat one to eight acres.
